Groomers around the world inspire us. Their passion for pets and business consistently set the bar for the industry, which is why we'll be featuring stories from VIGs - very important groomers - like you. This month's spotlight features Jenna Jaworski of Akron, OH.  

GC: Tell us your grooming story. 

JJ: I started as a pet bather in high school. Then in college, I decided to go to the Cleveland Grooming Academy. I took a brief pause from grooming to work as a Veterinary Assistant in a clinic. I later became a Fear Free Certified Professional Groomer and brought myself back into the grooming world with more knowledge. I strongly believe in humanity over vanity. I want to create a calm, relaxing, one-on-one environment for all my clients. 

GC: What interested you about becoming a dog groomer? 

JJ: When I was a bather, I always looked up to the groomers I worked with and wanted to be just like them. The service they provided for clients was always top-notch and I wanted to follow in their footsteps. 

GC: Do you have a favorite breed to groom? If so, why are they your favorite? 

JJ: I love grooming the Havanese breed or standard poodles! 

GC: What is your favorite thing about being a groomer? 

JJ: Providing a stress-free service and seeing how happy clients are when they see their pet. I love putting pet parents at ease knowing their pet is in good hands. I love making the pets feel their best at the end of the day.  

GC: What is the best piece of grooming advice you've received? 

JJ: Humanity over vanity and it’s okay that haircuts aren’t always perfect. There’s always room to learn and grow in this industry. Listen to constructive criticism. Always try to open yourself up to other local groomers - they aren’t your competition. 

GC: What would you say to someone interested in becoming a groomer? 

JJ: Never be afraid to ask questions no matter what they are. You’re learning - no question is stupid. Always be willing to learn and grow.

JJ: Never forget who you are and why you started.
