Groomers around the world inspire us. Their passion for pets and business consistently set the bar for the industry, which is why we'll be featuring stories from VIGs - very important groomers - like you. This month's spotlight features Courtney Patrick of Atlanta, Georgia. 

GC: Tell us your grooming story. 

CP: I started grooming when I was 18 years old. It’s hard to believe that was 10 years ago! I remember seeing a commercial on TV, and the light bulb went off. I knew that’s exactly what I wanted to do! I went to Animal Behavior College and received my certification. 

When I first started, I wasn’t confident with my work, but over time the confidence came. Now, I have my CPR/first aid certification, and I continue to find learning opportunities. My passion continues to grow. I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else! 

GC: What interested you about becoming a dog groomer? 

CP: I have loved dogs since I was a baby. We always had a dog in the home. I’ve also always had a creative side, and this gives me the best of both worlds! 

GC: Do you have a favorite breed to groom? If so, why are they your favorite? 

CP: I love Poodles - any size! It’s so fun to try different styles. 

GC: What is your favorite thing about being a groomer? 

CP: Trying different breed clips and really challenging myself to get perfect cuts every time. 

GC: What is the best piece of grooming advice you've received? 

CP: Always continue to learn. Take classes and challenge yourself. Watch videos – you can always learn something new. 

GC: What would you say to someone interested in becoming a groomer? 

CP: It’s physical! It’s an amazing job but extremely physical. Make sure you take care of your body. 

GC: What are your go-to grooming products? 

CP: My go-to grooming products are my Andis 5-speed clippers and my Bark2Basics Anti-Stat Spray.
